Personality & Philosophy

What is your opinion regarding clients educating themselves on legal issues?
I think that clients should educate themselves as much as they can so that they understand the process and their rights. An educated client is often one who has the best experience in the litigation process. A good attorney should make it part of their representation to adequately educate their clients regarding the process so that they can most effectively participate in their own case.

Are you willing to review documents prepared by clients?
Of course, documents prepared by clients are often the most relevant and helpful documents of all.

Are you willing to coach clients who want to represent themselves?
Yes, in appropriate cases.

Why did you decide to be a lawyer?
I initially wanted to be a lawyer to be more effective as a policy analyst in the United States Congress. During law school I learned that I enjoyed representing individuals in our civil justice system as opposed to focusing on broad legislative policy changes.

What work experience and education helps you be a better lawyer?
All of one's work and life experiences combine to allow a trained attorney to be an effective advocate, but the most important experience is representing hundreds of injured people. There is no substitute for actually encountering and then overcoming the many challenges facing injured people and learning the most efficient path to a desired outcome.

Why did you decide on your primary area of practice?
My decision to become a plaintiff's personal injury attorney is in keeping with my desire to represent regular people against entrenched economic interests, such as insurance companies, so that individuals' civil rights can be realized.

What do you like best about your career?
I like helping people out of the difficult circumstances which injuries present, and helping them to move on to rebuild their lives.

Tell us about your law firm:
We are a small firm with one attorney and two support staff. This requires us to carefully select the cases we take, but allows us to give personal attention and representation to our clients. We are informal and extremely effective.

What are your strengths and style?
I have been awarded the highest rating (AV) by other attorneys by the Martindale-Hubbell Organization. Our firm prides itself in producing a high quality work product which results in a much higher than average percentage of negotiated settlements rather than trials.

We listen hard to our clients and take the time to understand the full details of their case before presenting it to the other side. We have a very high level of experience with the treatment of most traumatic injuries and can therefore assist and guide our clients through their medical treatment options. We work cooperatively and professionally with our clients treating medical care providers and have very good relationships with many medical practitioners in the area. We also work cooperatively with insurance adjustors and opposing counsel to most effectively represent our clients. We are very experienced and skilled in the art of negotiation and often achieve our best results through mediation and settlement of our clients' cases.

Personal Interests:
Some of the best times I have had over the past decade have been coaching little league baseball and soccer. Personally, I enjoy competitive team sports, skiing, hiking, boating and fishing. I also enjoy discussing politics.
